Frequently
Asked Framing Questions
What is Conservation Framing? - Conservation
Framing utilizes materials and techniques that have been proven to protect
and maintain art work and memorabilia in as close to it's original
condition as possible. The major components of Conservation Framing
involve the use of acid-free mounting materials, proper hinging and
sealing of the art work, and the use of conservation glass. Ordinary paper
pulp based mat board contain acids and lignins which, over time, damage the
art work that they contact. Conservation mat board and mounting materials
are acid free and will not cause damage to the art work which they touch.
Ultraviolet light is also extremely dangerous for your art work. Not only
will colors fade, but also the actual materials will begin to degrade. The
use of conservation glass will protect your framed art, insuring that over
97% of the damaging ultraviolet light is filtered out before contacting
your valuables.
